Lydia Ann was born in 1861 in ,Wayne, Illinois.¹ Lydia Ann's father was William Greathouse and her mother was Elizabeth Newby. Her paternal grandparents were Hiram Greathouse and Lydia Ann; her maternal grandparents were John Newby and Rebecca Simpson. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Elijah, Hiram, Bryant, Daniel, Lucy J., Caroline, Rebecca and Lucena. She was the third youngest of the nine children.
