John W. Combest 
John W. was born on July 16th, 1856 in Russell County, Kentucky.1 John W.'s father was Alexander Combest and his mother was Martha Ann Roy. His paternal grandparents were John Combest and Jane Spencer; his maternal grandparents were William Roy and Julianna Gosser. He had five brothers and two sisters, named James C., Raleigh Jefferson, Archibald, Franklin, Alexander, Julia Ann and Mary J.. He was the oldest of the eight children.1 General Notes

John and his first wife Phoebe was living in Collin County, Texas at the time of the 1900 Collin County Census, page 11. It indicates that they arrived in Texas between 1890 and 1892.
By the year 1910 the family had moved again, this time to Grayson County, Texas. The 1900 and 1910 census records indicate that they had several children before Phoebe died sometime between 1903 and 1907.
John William married (2) Mary in 1907. Mary, born in North Carolina, had been married twice before to Mr. Ellsworth and Mr. Childers, and had children by these marriages, as indicated in the Grayson County, Texas 1910 census records. John William and Mary Combest had a son, Roy Combest, born ca. 1909.

Combest listed in the Collin County County, Texas census as son of John W. and Phoebe Combest
