George Washington Combest 
George Washington was born on December 25th, 1867 in Gilpin, Casey County, Kentucky.1 George Washington's father was Fountain Combest and his mother was Mary Williams Chilton. His paternal grandparents were Alexander Combest and Mariah Louisa Bowmer; his maternal grandparents were <Unknown> and <Unknown>. He had four brothers and four sisters, named James Bell, William B., Isaah, Cleora, Elizabeth, Alice V., Bexay and Ettie E.. He was the fourth oldest of the nine children. He died at the age of 71 on December 10th, 1939 in Moody, Texas (Moody Cemetery).1 General Notes

George left his native state of Kentucky at an early age, emigrating to Texas at the age of 16 with an elder cousin, Charles Tate. For several years they worked in the cattle ranges of Concho, Tom Green, and Williamson Counties in Texas as cowhands.
Following the death of Annie Lee on 5 August 1894, George continued working as a cowhand.
After marrying Sallie they continued ranch life on the Hoxie Ranch in Williamson County, Texas, where their eldest son was born.
After about a year on the Zacaweista Ranch in Wilberger County, Texas, George and Sallie Combest moved to Moody, Texas in the latter part of 1905 werhe Sallie's parents, Wallace and Elizabeth Sharpe had moved in 1903. The other children of George and Sallie were born in Moody, Texas.

George followed the building trades in Moody, Texas until his death on 10 December, 1939 in Moody. He was buried in Moody Cemetery, McLennan County, Texas. Some of the old homes he built along with W.D. Johnson, Uncle Frank Jones, John Jones, Kifton Power, and Jack Hargett are still occupied.
Sallie lived in the 1960's, dying on 1 February, 1963 in Moody, Texas. She is buried with her husband George at the Moody Cemetery.
