Letitia was born in 1842 in ,Bourbon, Kentucky.1 Letitia's father was Henry Clay and her mother was Olivia Bedinger. Her paternal grandparents were Henry Clay and Margaret Helm; her maternal grandparents were George Michael Bedinger and Henrietta. She had three brothers, and also a sibling of unknown gender named Joseph, George, John W. and Clay. She was the third oldest of the five children. She had four half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Samuel Scott, Joseph H., George, John Walker, Margaret H., Sarah E., Ann R. and Lettitia.-
