Her paternal grandparents were James Charles and Sarah; her maternal grandparents were Stephen Senter and Susannah Tandy. She had seven brothers and four sisters, named James, Oliver, Hiram, Stephen K., John, Joel, Solomon, Cynthia, Susannah, Elizabeth and Tabitha. She was the sixth oldest of the twelve children.-
