John M. Cates

John M. was born in 1858 in ,Wayne, Illinois.¹   John M.'s father was Benjamin F. Cates and his mother was Sarah Jane. He had two brothers and three sisters, named A. Judson, Alvin, Augusta, Nancy and Millie.  He was the oldest of the six children. He had four half-brothers and seven half-sisters, named Isaac Shelby, Clinton, William, Simeon, Sarah, Eliza Lisa, Mary Susan, Joan, Martha, Ornettie and Nancy.
