Bernard Cates 
Bernard was born in 1735 in Orange NC. Bernard's father was Thomas Cates and his mother was Rebecca Sykes. His paternal grandparents were Robert Ezra Cates and Mary Ann Randall; his maternal grandfather was Bernard Sykes III. He had two brothers and a sister, named Thomas, John and Sylvia. He was the second oldest of the four children. He died at the age of 91 in 1826 in Orange NC.General Notes
