Her paternal grandparents were Skelton and Ann; her maternal grandparents were Joseph Roberts and Elizabeth Clemmons. She had eight brothers and a sister, named Joseph, Alexander, John, William, Thomas, James, Reuben, Abraham Carter and Mary Elizabeth. She was the fourth oldest of the ten children.-
