Doctor Shanks 
Doctor was born in 1852 in , Hawkins, Tennessee. Doctor's father was Michael Shanks and his mother was Leah. His paternal grandparents were Christian Shanks and Margaret Pearson. He had six brothers and three sisters, named Christian, William, Henry, Michael, Thomas, Franklin, Harriet, Jane and Sarah. He was the second youngest of the ten children.
