Jacob Leander was born in 1851 in Sullivan County, Tennessee. Jacob Leander's father was William J. Crumley and his mother was Eliza Jane Steele. His paternal grandparents were William Jacob Crumley and Catherine Greer; his maternal grandparents were David Steele and Mary Spahr. He had three brothers and five sisters, named David James, Isaac D., William Greer, Harriet, Mary Catherine, Martha Ann, Sarah Frances and Alice Jane. He was the fifth oldest of the nine children.-
