Mary Ann was born in 1834 in Marion Co, VA. Mary Ann's father was Moses Criss and her mother was Charity Sharp. Her paternal grandparents were Lewis Criss and Christina Clouster; her maternal grandparents were Aaron J. Sharp and Elizabeth Sarah Ashcraft. She had seven brothers and four sisters, named Lewis, John T, Michael Kesney, Moses S, Noah, William, Aaron, Elizabeth R., Barbara, Christina Barbara and Sarah. She was the youngest of the twelve children.-
