Mary Ellen was born in 1863 in Kentucky.1   Mary Ellen's father was Robert Sidney Young and her mother was Sarah Jane Fletcher.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Young and Dorcas Burnett; her maternal grandparents were John Wesley Fletcher and Sarah Lamb. She had four brothers and five sisters, named Thomas Jefferson, William Richard, Robert Lee, John Sidney, Annie, Sarah Joana, Katherine Orlene, Nora Hettie and Myra Ethel.  She died at the age of 33 in 1896.1
