The Maury Genealogist by Jill K. Garett, lists a deposition done on
Winney Runnion, age 42: Lives in Lewis County and has ever since it was
a county...knew Houston two or three years before 1859, and knew Brown
from ch ildhood...she knew relations between two not good. Brown said two
weeks befo re that he intended to kill Houston and she told Houston, who
lived in 1859 t wo miles from Mrs. Goodman (Ed.--or Winney Runnion lived
two miles from Mrs. Goodman; the wording is not clear). Brown "had
whipped my son" who is 12 year s old. "Houston is no kin to me, my son
hired to Houston when whipped by Bro wn." "I have never been married. I
have five children." Signed 23 Jan. 186 9 by Winney (X) Runnion. Mentions
a Myra Sharp--male. Jack Burlison, of Lawr ence County, was called as a
witness, and did not come. Barbara Kincaid also called as witness and
did not come.
