Craven Lynn was born on February 22nd, 1847 in Harrison County, Indiana. Craven Lynn's father was Peter Hottel and his mother was Lenora Westfall . His paternal grandparents were John Conrad Hottel and Barbara Funkhouser. He had four half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Conrad Andrew, Levi Pitman, David Pitman, James, Mary and Emma Lenora. He died at the age of 67 on October 26th, 1914.1 General Notes

PROF. HOTEL GOES TO THE ARGOS SCHOOLS.
(Special to the Journal-Gazette.)
Columbia City, Ind., June 12. --
Prof. Craven Lynn Hottel, who has been superitendent [sic] of the Columbia City public schools for the past seven years, has been tendered the superintendency of the schools at Argos, Ind., and has accepted the position. His daughter, Miss Laura Hottel, who has been teaching in the Churubusco schools, was retained by the school board of that town for this year, but she was tendered the primary grade at Argos with her father and has asked to be released by the former board. Her resignation will quite likely be accepted Tuesday evening.
Prof. J. C. Sanders, a graduate of Ada (o.) university, will succeed Prof. Hottel at Columbia City.
