Ann was born in 1681 in Lower Norfolk, Virginia. Ann's father was John Carraway and her mother was Ann Kemp. Her paternal grandparents were John Carraway and Ann Foster; her maternal grandparents were James George Kemp and Mary Anne Lovett. She had five brothers and two sisters, named John, Richard, James, William, Thomas, Dinah and Elizabeth Ann. She was the fourth youngest of the eight children.-
