Julia was born about 1843.  Julia's father was Gilbert Schoonover and her mother was Jane Shoemaker. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Benjamin, Thomas, Robert, William, Catherine, Levina, Amanda and Lorin.  She was the fourth youngest of the nine children.
