Gospatric Earl of Northumbria 
Gospatric was born about 1040 in Northumberland, England.1 Gospatric's father was Maldred of Scotland Lord Allerdale & Carlisle and his mother was Ealdgyth (AEglithia) of Northumbria. His paternal grandparents were Crinan (Grimus) de Mormaer and Bethoc Mac Kenneth; his maternal grandparents were Uchtred (Ughtred) Earl of Northumbria and Elfgifu (Elgiva) of Wessex. He was an only child. He died in 1075 in Ubbanford, Scotland.1 General Notes

In Gospatric the Earl, the greatest families of Scotland, Pictland, Northumbria, and England were combined. Cospatrick (a.k.a. Gospatric) claimed the right to the Earldom of Northumberland through his Mother, AElgitha/Elgiva. After a nasty disagreement with William the Conqueror, he fled north to his cousin's Kingdom in Scotland taking with him Edgar Atheling(the Saxon heir), Edgar's mother and sisters, one of which was Margaret, future Queen of Malcolm III and later known as Saint Margaret of Scotland. It is in Scotland where he is most reknowned as the First Earl & founder of the House & clan of Dunbar.
