Narrative
[williamstone.FTW]
! Lived near Georgetown, Pennsylvania. Served two terms, of six months
each, as a frontier guard of southwestern Pennsylvania against hostile
Indians. The service was called "standing on the station". His brother
Nicholas served the same duty in 1793 and '94. Had nine children. His
brothers, Thomas and Nicholas were elders in the Presbyterian Church.
His brother George lived at the mill built by their father on Mill Creek.
!per "Gen & Pers History of Beaver County" John W Jordan, 1914: Moved
from the south to the north side of the Ohio River and there purchased a
farm of 250 acres (later owned by Lewis Davidson) clearing and
cultivating the same. He served two terms, of six months each, as a
frontier guard against the hostile Indians, the service being known
among those engaged therein as 'standing on the station.'
!per Michael Bailey 1997: "Georgetown, PA is located on the site of what
used to be the farm of Benoni Dawson. My mother says there was a stone
wall in town that was built by the farm hands of Benoni Dawson.
Anyway, the farm originally sat on Mill Creek. The road into Georgetown
runs right along the creek...the creek comes through the hills into an open
flood plain which is the location of Georgetown PA (the farm). There is
an old cemetery that sat upon a hill overlooking the town...many of the
graves were from the late 1700s and early 1800s. My mom also said that
there are Mackalls in Georgetown, but she isn't sure if they're related. I
rode out to the himestead of Howard Debolt Dawson but to my chagrin,
there was a NO TRESPASSING sign posted. My mother doesn't think that
Dawsons live there any more.
