per obit: Alma N Hawthorne ...former longtime resident of the Whittier area. Mother of Eunice Durham, Lois Givan and Howard C Vrooman; sister of Charles Dawson; 21 grandchildren; several great and great great grandchildren.Instrumental in organizing and opening Kiowa County Public Library,
member of the first Library Board of Directors.
Served as County Superintendent of schools.
Served on the committee made up of Methodists and Union Church
members to organize and open a church in what was the Presbyterian
Church. There weren't enough people to have two congregations, and they
decided to join as one, and buy the Pres. one that was being sold.
