Serena's father was Luther Paul Washington Riser and her mother was Serena Adeline Moore. Her paternal grandparents were William Riser and Eliza Burly. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Edward, James, Luther, Robert, Ella Georgie, Annie, Eva and Mary.-
