Robert Claude was born on September 28th, 1897 in Gaffney, South Carolina.1 Robert Claude's father was James L. Moorhead and his mother was Mary Frances (Fannie) Werts. His maternal grandparents were Michael Werts and Martha Ann Elizabeth Stephens. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Paul Grady, Douglas, Fred Werts, James L., Myrtle Lucille, Frances Elizabeth, Annie Margaret and Florence Dacus. He was the fourth oldest of the nine children.-
