Her maternal grandparents were Patrick Boland and Claton Alice Bowers. She had three brothers and three sisters, named John Patrick Carpenter, Elmer Roland, James Carroll, Alice Catherine, Frances Marie and Katherine. She had a half-sister named Lizzie Alma.-
