Lilla was born in Big Creek, Calhoun County, Mississippi.1 Lilla's father was William England and her mother was Amanda Boland. Her maternal grandparents were Ephriam Walter Boland and Susan Bowers. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Clifton W., Edmund, Bertha and Esther Beatrice. She had a half-brother and four half-sisters, named Harper, Blanche, Hattie, Johnnie and Maude.-
