Petronilla De GRANTMESNIL 
Petronilla was born in 1134 in of Leicestershire, England.1 Petronilla's father was Hugh de Grentmesnil II Lord Grentmesnil and her mother was Adelhyde de Gaunt. Her paternal grandparents were Ivo de Grentmesnil Lord Grentmesnil and Felia de Gaunt; her maternal grandfather was Gilbert de Gaunt. She was an only child. She died at the age of 78 on April 1st, 1212 in Leicester, Leicestershire, England.2 General Notes

Crouch, 'The Beaumont Twins' (p.91), cites a charter of Petronil la's to St-Evroult, which commemorates her father by name as Wi lliam [citing Ctl St-Evroult, ii, fo 33v], disproving the tentat ive suggestion in the Complete Peerage that he might have been c alled Hugh. Crouch says that there seems to be no other record o f this William. Was he a son of the William who went to Apulia , rather than a son of Robert, Hugh de Grandmesnil's eldest son , as suggested by Complete Peerage?[MARSHALL.FTW]

RESEARCH NOTES:
in the account of the foundation of Leicester Abbey she is called daughter of
Hugh de GRANTMESNIL, who is said to have given with her the honour of
Hinckley and the senechalship of England. This story is clearly wrong.
