Gilbert de Gaunt was born in 1048 in of Alost, Flanders, Belgium.1 Gilbert de Gaunt's father was Ralph de Gand and his mother was Gisele de Luxemburg. His paternal grandparents were Adalbert de Gand and Ermengarde de Flandre; his maternal grandparents were Frederick II Ct of Luxemburg and Gerberge (de Luxemburg). He was an only child. He died at the age of 46 in 1094.1 General Notes
