Hugh de Grentmesnil was born in 1032 in of Normandy, France.1   Hugh de Grentmesnil's father was Robert de Grentmesnil and his mother was Advise (Hawisa) de Escalfoy.  His paternal grandfather was Gervase de Grentmesnil; his maternal grandparents were Giroie de Escalfoy Lord Escalfoy & Montrevil and Gisele de Montfort. He had a sister named Adeliza.1
