Mahala Louisa was born on January 19th, 1836.1 Mahala Louisa's father was William McMillan Chitty and her mother was Mary Beard Sease. Her maternal grandparents were Leonard Sease and Katherine E. Rizer. She had eight brothers and five sisters, named Allen, James Leonard, Michael Seas, Miles McMillian, Henry Daniel, Oliver Perry, Lewellwn D, Leonard S, Sarah Ann Catherine, Catherine, Louisa, Mary E and Rebecca.-
