James Leonard was born on December 26th, 1821.1 James Leonard's father was William McMillan Chitty and his mother was Mary Beard Sease. His maternal grandparents were Leonard Sease and Katherine E. Rizer. He had seven brothers and six sisters, named Allen, Michael Seas, Miles McMillian, Henry Daniel, Oliver Perry, Lewellwn D, Leonard S, Sarah Ann Catherine, Mahala Louisa, Catherine, Louisa, Mary E and Rebecca.-
