1 Evander John Culpepper's father was Evander Byrd and his mother was Elizabeth Mason. His paternal grandparents were William Byrd and Mary Griggs; his maternal grandparents were David Mason and Rachel Fountain. He had a sister named Martha Catherine. He had five half-brothers and three half-sisters, named David Taylor, Alex Fountain, James Peter, Lewis Shuck, William Mason, Martha Catherine, Mary Ann and Sarah Elizabeth.1 General Notes
