Joseph M. was born on August 3rd, 1879 in Richmond, VA. Joseph M.'s father was Albert Newton Tinsley and his mother was Elizabeth B. Smith. His paternal grandparents were Reeves Tinsley and Martha A. ?; his maternal grandparents were James Bolton Smith and Mary ?. He had two brothers and six sisters, named Albert Newton, Francis Baker, Victoria Lee, Elenora, Cora Lee, Mary E., Bessie and Elizabeth. He was the fourth youngest of the nine children. He had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named Seth H., Sam Coleman and Virginia. He died at the age of 35 on April 5th, 1915 in Richmond, VA of Pulmonary Tuberculosis. He was buried on April 7th, 1915 in Riverview Cemetery, Richmond, VA.General Notes
