Bessie was born in 1886 in Richmond, VA. Bessie's father was Albert Newton Tinsley and her mother was Elizabeth B. Smith. Her paternal grandparents were Reeves Tinsley and Martha A. ?; her maternal grandparents were James Bolton Smith and Mary ?. She had three brothers and five sisters, named Albert Newton, Joseph M., Francis Baker, Victoria Lee, Elenora, Cora Lee, Mary E. and Elizabeth. She was the second youngest of the nine children. She had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named Seth H., Sam Coleman and Virginia. She died at the age of 71 on March 9th, 1957 in Richmond, VA. She was buried on March 11th, 1957 in Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond, VA.-
