John A. was born about 1858 in Hanover Co., Virginia.1 John A.'s father was Obadiah Russell Stanley and his mother was M. Elizabeth Frances. His paternal grandfather was Charles Stanley. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Lucius C., Timothy Thomas, William George, Isabella L., Cecilia M., Adeline Ellen, Jane Frances and Hanover Susan. He was the second youngest of the nine children. He died before 1920.General Notes
