Mary Anne was born in 1795. Mary Anne's father was John Pendleton and her mother was Anne Lewis. Her paternal grandparents were Edmund Pendleton and Mildred Pollard; her maternal grandfather was John Lewis. She had eight brothers and two sisters, named John Lewis, Edmund Allen, William Armistead, William Armistead, Charles Lewis, Robert Taylor, Benjamin Franklin, Nathaniel Philip Henry, Elizabeth Allen and Eveline Mildred. She was the fourth oldest of the eleven children.-
