His paternal grandparents were John Naish and Frances ?; his maternal grandparents were James McGehee Butler and Sarah Christopher. He had a brother and six sisters, named John Wesley, Frances C., Dicey C., Martha B., Mary T., Sarah Caroline and Sophia Ann. He was the second youngest of the eight children.-
