Matthew Fontaine was born on January 14th, 1806 in Fredericksburg, VA. Matthew Fontaine's father was Richard Lancelot Maury and his mother was Diana Minor. His paternal grandparents were James Maury and Mary Walker; his maternal grandparents were John Minor and Elizabeth Cosby. He had a brother named Walker. He was the younger of the two children. He died at the age of 67 on February 1st, 1873 in Lexington, VA. He was buried on September 27th, 1873 in Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond, VA.-
