Martha was born about 1776 in Louisa Co., VA.  Martha's father was Stephen Hunter and her mother was Mary Statham.  Her paternal grandparents were Andrew Hunter and Jane ?; her maternal grandparents were Love Statham and Martha Meriwether. She had five brothers and three sisters, named John, Charles, William, Samuel, George, Nancy, Mary and Mildred.  She was the second youngest of the nine children.
