Virgie Florence was born in July 1898. Virgie Florence's father was James Garland Harlow and her mother was Ida B. McAllister. Her paternal grandparents were James Richard Harlow and Rebecca B. White; her maternal grandparents were John McAllister and Lena Marshall. She had two brothers and a sister, named Chester Lee, George Raymond and Ora Mae. She was the second oldest of the four children. She had six half-brothers and a half-sister, named Thomas Jefferson, James Dickerson, Joseph Burress, Adolphus, Lucian Minor, Willie P. and Annie Burrus.-
