Samuel O. was born about 1841. Samuel O.'s father was Hezikiah Butler and his mother was Susan Haley Harlow. His paternal grandparents were Nathan Butler and Pricilla Anthony; his maternal grandparents were Charles Harlow and Mary Crews. He had four brothers and seven sisters, named David S., Andrew J., Charles Henry, Stephen William, Martha, Elizabeth, Ann, Mary E., Delilah Frances, Cinthia and Mildred Susan. He was the sixth oldest of the twelve children.General Notes
Enlisted 13th Virginia Infantry, CSA during Civil War. Listed as 5'9" tall with a light complexion, hazel eyes and dark hair. Took Oath of Amnesty at City Point Prison, Washington, D.C. after capture & was sent to Columbus, Ohio.
