Janet's father was Robert Anderson and her mother was Elizabeth Mary Overton. Her paternal grandparents were Robert Anderson and Cecelia Massie; her maternal grandparents were William Overton and Elizabeth Mary Waters. She had nine brothers and three sisters, named Robert, John, Matthew, Bartelot, Nathaniel, Charles, Richard, David Overton, James, Anne, Charity and Sarah.-
