Agnes Selma was born in December 1894 in Gates County, North Carolina, USA.1   Agnes Selma's father was Benjamin Frank Russell and her mother was Sarah M. "Sallie" Riddick. She had five brothers and eight sisters, named Walter L., Benjamin E., Harry A, Clyde, Clide F, Elena S., G*La A, Elizzabeth F, Ruth R, Bessie, Agnes C, Sarah A and Sarah.  She was the eleventh oldest of the fourteen children.
