Ethel was born on April 4th, 1879.  Ethel's father was Peter Edward Young and her mother was Louisa Ann Findlay.  Her maternal grandparents were Alexander Findlay and Sarah Knackston. She had a brother and six sisters, named Alexander, Louisa, Violet, Edith, Jessie, Ella and Sarah.  She was the oldest of the eight children.
