Alexander was born on August 3rd, 1886 in Launceston.  Alexander's father was Peter Edward Young and his mother was Louisa Ann Findlay.  His maternal grandparents were Alexander Findlay and Sarah Knackston. He had seven sisters named Ethel, Louisa, Violet, Edith, Jessie, Ella and Sarah.  He was the fourth oldest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 21 on July 3rd, 1908 in Launceston.
