Maude was born on March 7th, 1877 in Launceston.  Maude's father was John Alexander Findlay and her mother was Beatrice Eliza West.  Her paternal grandparents were Alexander Findlay and Sarah Knackston. She had two brothers named John and Cyril.  She was the oldest of the three children. She had two half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Claud, John, Alma and Muriel.  She died at the age of 1 on October 4th, 1878 in Launceston.
