Nicolaas Philip was born on May 16th, 1890 in Malmesbury.  Nicolaas Philip's father was Simon Petrus van Blerk and his mother was Anna Margaretha van der Merwe (van Blerk).  His paternal grandparents were Johannes Petrus van Blerk and Geertruida Elizabeth Louw (van Blerk). He had a brother and a sister, named Philip Petrus and Hester Magdalena. He had five half-brothers and seven half-sisters, named Jacobus Adrijan Rozier, Simon Petrus, Petrus Gerhardus Louw, Jan Albertus, Gerhadus, Johanna Petronella, Jacomina Aletta, Anna Magrita, Cornelia Johanna Jacoba, Martha Berrenda, Catharina Christina and Ragel Elizabeth.  He died at the age of 45 on August 26th, 1935 in Durban.
