Jan Albertus was born on May 9th, 1871.  Jan Albertus' father was Simon Petrus van Blerk and his mother was Jacomina Hendrina Louw (van Blerk).  His paternal grandparents were Johannes Petrus van Blerk and Geertruida Elizabeth Louw (van Blerk); his maternal grandparents were Jacobus Adriaan Louw and Rachel Elizabeth (Louw). He had three brothers and seven sisters, named Jacobus Adrijan Rozier, Simon Petrus, Petrus Gerhardus Louw, Johanna Petronella, Jacomina Aletta, Anna Magrita, Cornelia Johanna Jacoba, Martha Berrenda, Catharina Christina and Ragel Elizabeth. He had an adopted brother named Gerhadus. He had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named Nicolaas Philip, Philip Petrus and Hester Magdalena.  He died at the age of 91 on April 20th, 1963.  He was buried in Strand, Goedehoop cemetery.
