Jan Carel van Blerk (Johan Carel van Blerk) 
Jan Carel was born on December 8th, 1848 in Colesberg. Jan Carel's father was Hendrik Everhadus van Blerk and his mother was Elizabeth Jacoba Rippel (van Blerk). His paternal grandparents were Rogier Bernhadus van Blerk and Martha Basina Dorothea van de Kaap; his maternal grandparents were Johannes Rippel and Magdalena Antonisse van de Kaap (Rippel). He had three brothers and a sister, named Hendrik Zerjakus, Christiaan Hendrik Jacobus, Frederik Johannes and Magdalene Hendina. He was the youngest of the five children. He died at the age of 52 on May 18th, 1901 in Kroonstad. He was buried at the Old Cemetery, Kroonstad, Free State.General Notes
