Bernardus Pieter was born in 1880 in Colesberg. Bernardus Pieter's father was Jan Carel van Blerk and his mother was Hendrika Johanna van den Berg (van Blerk). His paternal grandparents were Hendrik Everhadus van Blerk and Elizabeth Jacoba Rippel (van Blerk). He had two sisters named Isabel Aletta and Alida Johanna. He had four half-brothers and a half-sister, named Hendrik Everhadus Klingbeil, Frederik Carel, Johannes Gustavus, Louise Andries and Elizabeth Jacoba. He died at the age of 58 on May 10th, 1938 in Sanatorium, Pietermariyzburg.
