Catharina Margaretha was born on September 6th, 1772.  Catharina Margaretha's father was Simon Petrus van Blerk and her mother was Johanna Catharina Cats (van Blerk).  Her paternal grandparents were Nicolaas van Blerk and Catharina Maria Magetski; her maternal grandparents were Johannes Cats and Catriena Groenewald (Cats). She had a sister named Johanna Petronella.  She was the older of the two children. She had three half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Nicolaas, Johannes Petrus, Jacobus Rogier, Johanna Margaretha, Christina Marthina, Christina Catharina and Anna Hendrika.
