George was born in 1840 in Michelmersh, Hampshire.  George's father was Joshua WREN and his mother was Charlotte NOYCE.  His paternal grandparents were Richard WREN and Mary SOUTHWELL. He had two brothers and four sisters, named James, Frederick, Mary, Harriet, Frances and Elizabeth.  He was the second youngest of the seven children. He had a half-brother named Charles.
