Charles was born in 1812 in Michelmersh, Hampshire.  Charles' father was Joshua WREN and his mother was Frances SHARPE.  His paternal grandparents were Richard WREN and Mary SOUTHWELL. He had three half-brothers and four half-sisters, named James, Frederick, George, Mary, Harriet, Frances and Elizabeth.
